The Nisga'a Fisheries vessel Sgagim Lisims responded to a mayday call late afternoon on Sunday, March 14th, 2010. The call was made to Coast Guard, but as a Nisga'a Patrol vessel was in the vicinity, it responded to the call. Captain Alfred McKay sent out the vessel's zodiac with operator Will McKay and Garrett Doolan to respond to the call.

A Scottish teenager has been swept into the sea off the south-west coast of Ireland. A search was called off late on Sunday afternoon for the man, thought to be aged 19, as weather conditions worsened. It is believed the Scot was walking on the beach taking pictures under cliffs near Baltimore, Co Cork, at around 7.30am on Saturday, when he was struck by a wave and carried into the water.

The Dubbo Rescue Squad is encouraging people of all ages to come along to the MAD Driving Program this week and get their hands on the "jaws of life". The Volunteer Rescue Association's (VRA) Making a Difference (MAD) Driving Program is designed to make people aware of their responsibilities when driving and "some of the pitfalls" that could occur on the roads, but senior co-ordinator Bob Burt said it was "not all doom and gloom". "We try to have a bit of fun," Mr Burt said.

Lengthy delays in finding a crashed helicopter risk being repeated because of a lack of leadership by aviation regulators, experts say. The scathing comments by the New Zealand developers of a satellite-based aircraft tracking system come at a coroner's inquest into the deaths of millionaire liquor baron Michael Erceg and Dutch beer company executive Guustaaf Klatte. Mr Erceg, 49, one of New Zealand's richest men, and his passenger Mr Klatte died in a Waikato helicopter crash on November 4, 2005.

We believe it is morally irresponsible of the CAA not to legislate in support of aircraft tracking.   -Bruce Bartley

The Coast Guard rescued three people in distress aboard a disabled vessel in the Gulf of Mexico south of the Atchafalaya Bay late Saturday. A watchstander from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call at approximately 11:30 p.m., Saturday, from a crewmember aboard the vessel, Global Lift 9, reporting that they were in distress and taking on 8-foot seas with three people on board. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New

THREE men were pulled from the water on Saturday suffering mild hypothermia, after their boat overturned off the state's East Coast. Their six-metre vessel overturned in Great Oyster Bay near Swansea about 4.30pm and an EPIRB signal was detected by the Australian Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre in Canberra. The Tasmania Police Westpac rescue helicopter, a coast guard unit and local fishing boats joined the search for the vessel, which was located 90 minutes after it capsized.

A new beginner lifesaving course for children aged eight to 12 was held over February half-term at Haverfordwest leisure centre. The free Rookie lifesaving school was attended by 17 children, each of whom learned water safety and personal survival skills and how to perform rescues. At the end of the week, they all achieved their Rookie Bronze 1 Award.

San Jose police will join the Santa Clara County search and rescue team Sunday in the continued search for an 83-year-old woman who went missing in the city last month. On Feb. 2, one of Ann Marie Vlahovich's neighbors called police to report that she hadn't seen Vlahovich or her husband since Jan. 27. Officers responded to the couple's home in the 800 block of Kingfisher Drive and found Vlahovich's husband in need of medical attention.
